HGV drivers quite literally drive our industry. So celebrating the effort and commitment that they show to their job is an important consideration.
One of the biggest annual celebrations of HGV drivers is the Microlise Driver of the Year Awards.
Drivers are shortlisted in three categories: short, medium and long distance. The awards are then given out to drivers in different industries. The ceremony includes Extra Mile, HGV Hero, Lifetime Achievement, Most Improved Driver of the Year, and Young Driver of the Year categories.

The highest proportion of UK HGV drivers are in the 45-59 age bracket; many of which have been working in the industry for over 30 years. There has been a diminishing in the job’s appeal in recent years which has resulted in an increase in the number of people leaving the profession. Put this alongside the very few amount of young people joining the industry, there is a shortage of drivers.
It is for this reason that it is important to celebrate those in the industry and award those who deserve it.
